What is this project about?
Through regular interventions in public places, we create a recurring space for people to playfully and non-verbally connect with themselves, their surroundings, and others human beings. Experienced movement educators and co-facilitators collectively maintain a safe and inviting framework that can be adapted to the needs of many different kinds of participants. The movement pedagogue guides through playful dance and movement exercises designed to enhance self-awareness, rediscover the environment with all senses, and explore ways to connect with others despite language barriers or cultural differences. The extended duration and consistency of interventions establish a recognizable pattern, shifting perceptions toward connection, mutual curiosity, and acceptance, even for space users not actively participating.
What are the goals behind the project?
The overarching aims of the “Meeting through Movement” project are to counteract social divides, change the perception of public space and promote community engagement. By promoting participatory art, the project aims to encourage people to actively engage with their own surroundings. The inclusiveness of the movement workshops creates opportunities for shared experiences that overcome language and cultural barriers and foster a sense of togetherness and connection among participants. By encouraging participants to explore and interact with public spaces in a new way, the project also aims to inspire a sense of ownership, pride and feeling home in these environments.
