Cultivating Democratic Discourse
Condemnation, Respect, Openness: What do we (not) need?
Differences of opinion are central to democracy. Still, there seems to be an increasing number of topics where we easily slip into condemning our conversation partners. Does that mean we are getting dogmatic? Sometimes clear opposition is important! But where do we slide into demonizing other views or even other people? Is there something about the harshness of moral judgement that we should look at? How do we wish to live together in the long run, with all the permanent diversity of opinions?
Who is invited
This invitation goes out to all who are working in different initiatives, groups and organizations being part of various social movements (climate justice-, democracy-, transition-, migration-, neighborhood- and city-movements etc.) and those who would like to get to meet active people. It comes from a wish to foster connection, exchange and understanding within and between various movements and thus support us all in fruitful long term engagement.
Format
The Social Movement Networking Lunches are a mix of moderated exchange and getting to know each other in an informal, relaxed setting.
