7. Cross-Movement Open Space

🍂Autumn 2026: Fri 16th – SAT 17th of October 2026
⏰each day 10 am – 6 pm
🎯ZWINGLIKIRCHE, Schweglerstraße 39, 1150 Vienna

This edition’s topic:

Reclaiming Digital communication Spaces
how can we strengthen our digital sovereignty?
Should we say goodbye to big tech?

This time, the Cross-Movement Open Space is an invitation to explore our roles and responsibilities as actors in civil society in responding to the harmful influence of social media giants* on the individual wellbeing as well as on the health of our society and political systems.
As always, there will be space to engage with the topic in a way that reflects how you relate to it. You are welcome to bring your curiosity and expertise to discuss both the problems and possible solutions. Learning more about how these platforms operate is equally welcome, as is the sharing of ideas on how and why to transform them or leave them altogether. We hope that this space will help us as civil society actors to positively contribute to the necessary change.

If you have questions about the event or about our work in general, you can come to our monthly Stammtisch (every 2nd Thursday of the month, you can find the respective location on our event page).

OPEN SPACE: YOUR INPUT, YOUR INTUITION

An OpenSpace Symposium provides everyone with the opportunity to offer workshops, talks or other sessions (such as dance or meditation). Please bring what you have for our focus topic! That can be a question you would like input on, or an input you can offer to others.

We will start the day with a plenary where everyone offering a session can explain that session in two sentences and then pin it to the timetable on the wall. Most people do not offer a session themselves, but simply attend other people’s or even drift off to the coffee table to chat with whoever is hanging out there. That is how it is meant to be! Follow your intuition, that should lead to what is best for you and even for the symposium as a whole!

We’ll guide you through the OpenSpace process on the day itself, but just know that you can prepare talks, inputs, and questions for discussion rounds in advance. Everyone is invited to contribute!

WHO THIS EVENT IS FOR

Are you part of a social movement for socio-ecological change? Are you passionate about climate justice, human rights, feminism, migration, peace, democracy, solidarity economy or other related topics? We would like to give those committed to working for a better future a chance to connect with others in the field! Including cross-movement networks: environmentalists talking to peace activists, community builders to queer groups and so on…

It is a space to weave our groups’ ideas and goals together, to experiment with joint visions of the future we are working towards. We want to honor the complexity of the task and not try to agree on “the one right way.” Instead, we practice working in ambiguity and uncertainty. We all experiment in our own ways and come together to share our experiences, exchange knowledge and resources, and cultivate cross-group collaboration. In doing so, we also want to work at the pace of regeneration and not sacrifice people’s well-being for short-term effectiveness.

This Cross-Movement Open Space is part of a series. Everyone can join a contact exchange, and of course come back and experience how the community grows and deepens with each Open Space!
