Peacewalk 2026 in Vienna
Peacewalk 2026 reaches Vienna on Thursday 6 August and stays through the 9th — the final Austrian city on the route before the walk continues along the Jerusalem Way. Four open moments frame the stop: a demonstration, a film and panel evening, an afternoon of encounter in the middle of the city, and the walk onward. Everyone is welcome, whether you walk a stretch with us or simply come along.
Arrival at the Hiroshima Day Demonstration

We arrive in Vienna on Hiroshima Day and join the commemoration — walking into the city to meet people remembering the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and standing for a world without nuclear weapons. It’s a fitting way to enter Vienna: a city that has made itself a home for disarmament and dialogue, on a day the world pauses to remember what violence at its most absolute costs.

Film Screening & Panel: There Is Another Way

There Is Another Way (2025, 67 min, dir. Stephen Apkon) tells the story of people who refuse to surrender to violence and injustice — and who show, in doing so, that another path is possible. At its heart is Combatants for Peace, the bi-national movement of former enemy combatants, Israelis and Palestinians, working together in the middle of an ongoing armed conflict. Nominated for two Nobel Peace Prizes, the movement found its very core tested by the devastation of October 7th and the war in Gaza. The first question it had to face was its own belief: is this still possible?
Content Notification: Contains graphic real-world footage of armed conflict and its aftermath (Israel/Gaza, since Oct 2023), depictions/discussion of killing and abduction, and firsthand testimony of grief and trauma. The film addresses a highly contested political conflict and includes perspectives from both Israeli and Palestinian participants.
Interactive discussion: How to choose peace in the face of violence?
Peace needs systemic conditions to arrive and to last. But one condition is at its core: The believe that peace is possible. Stories and narratives of peace being possible need to be widely shared, so it can become the reality we live in.
We want to explore, together: What are the conditions that enable people to choose peace in the midst of violence – and what role can these stories play in a larger movement toward peace?
