Peacewalk 2026 in Salzburg

The Peacewalk 2026 reaches Salzburg on 14 July for a two-day stop before continuing along the Jerusalem Way. While we’re in the city, we’re opening two spaces for encounter and honest exchange — everyone is welcome to join, whether you walk a stretch with us or simply come to listen.

Wednesday 15 july

Guided tour of the city

Wednesday, 15 July · 15:40 · Inner Courtyard of Mirabell Palace

Storytelling Café: How am I doing with the wars of our time?
Wednesday, 15 July · 18:00 · Yoco Jugendzentrum, Gstättengasse 16, Salzburg

In a fast-paced world where genuine encounters often fall short, attentive listening has become rare. A storytelling café revives an older tradition: a warm, open space to share personal experiences and truly listen to one another. It’s not about telling a perfect story — just honest glimpses into our lives.

This evening we sit with a question many of us carry quietly: How am I doing with the wars of our present? Together we’ll share small excerpts from our own experience — the worries, the numbness, the moments of hope — and give each other the simple gift of being heard. Listening matters as much as speaking.

Come for a coffee or tea, listen, and share what feels right for you. It will be possible to participate in German or English.

Thursday 16 july

A Visit to the Franz Jägerstätter Memorial
Thursday, 16 July · 9:00 · Salzburg, Bahnhofsvorplatz (Lastenstraße)

Blessed Franz Jägerstätter (1907–1943) was an Austrian farmer who refused to bear arms for the Nazi regime and was executed for it — a conscientious objector who chose conscience over conformity, and who was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2007.

We travel together from Salzburg to St. Radegund, Jägerstätter’s home village, by private car. There we visit the house where Franz and Franziska Jägerstätter lived, the parish church of St. Radegund for a short moment of devotion, and Franz Jägerstätter’s grave. Afterwards we share lunch together at Gasthaus Hofbauer before returning to Salzburg, arriving around 15:00.

The visit is organised and hosted by a local group of Pax Christi Austria. Everyone is welcome.

Dialogue Walk: What do the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have to do with us here in Austria?
Thursday, 16 July · 17:00 · Salzburg Old Town · Meeting point: Kapitelplatz

Walking helps us think. On a dialogue walk we move together through the city and open up space for exchange across social bubbles — with people you might otherwise never meet. Our walk guides gently facilitate conversation: in pairs and as a group, in speaking and in silence, always within a safe and welcoming frame.

The question that guides us this time: What do the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have to do with us here in Austria? We’ll follow the thread together, at walking pace, and close with a shared snack and a relaxed moment to wrap up.

Open to everyone. Outside. Around three hours. It will be possible to participate in German or English
